During the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, Fidel Valdés defended the Cuban coast aboard a ship. The tension experienced during this crisis made him very nervous. In a schizophrenic crisis, he gave away his house and was admitted to the Havana Psychiatric Hospital. There he works, plays in a band, and manages to compensate himself. However, although he is now able to lead a normal life, Fidel loses his home and his family, so the psychiatric hospital becomes his only home and music his faithful companion.
